(Extract from the Man Kwok fat ro, Canton. 11th May, 1927)

Letter by mr. Wong Ching Wai. suggesting the convention

of a meeting of the Central Executive Committee.

To Cheung Ching Kong on leaving Shanghai for Nanking.

(From our own correspondent)

102

The situation was very critical when Wong Ching Wai

reached Shanghai last month on his return from abroad, since

the Communist portion in the Kuomintang had been planning the

seizure of the powers of Government and the destruction of the Kuomintang and our nation. Wong had a discussion there with Tseung Kai Shek, Ng Tsz Fai, Li Shek Tsang and other leaders of the Kuomintang, and as a result, the suggestion of Wong was adopted and it was resolved that a 4th General Meeting of the Central Executive Committee should be convened in Nanking some time about the 15th April, at which all questions should be solved. Wong left for Hankow on the 6th April on e mission to secure the attendeance of all members

of the Central Executive Committee there at the Nanking

Meeting. But after his arrival there, he was surrounded by the Communists and kept under observation by them, and thus

he could not attend the meeting in time, and much speculation

was aroused among the general public. We have now discovered a letter written by him personally to Cheung Ching Kong on

his leaving Shanghai for Hankow, and as it will prove that Yong has really suggested a 4th General Meeting of the

Central Executive Committee in Nanking, and has an important

bearing on the true attitude of Wong, we have had it lithographed for the perusal of the public.

To

Mr. Cheung Ching Kong,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter. It has stirred in me endless emotion and

regards for you. You have been coping with your position of

difficulty
